Research details

Complimenti!

In the academic year 2021-2022, 281 students from the 3rd, 4th and 5th years participated in independent research on Foreign Language Anxiety conducted by our native English-speaking teacher, Mrs. Shreya Ghosh. She holds a MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of  Other Languages) from Lancaster University, England which is ranked as the 12th-best university in the world for Linguistics.
The research focused on assessing and evaluating the reported Foreign Language Anxiety of the students in Communication Apprehension and Classroom-Related Variables. The 3rd and 4th-year students participated in oral discussions on various topics including Citizenship (Educazione Civica using the Sustainable Development Goals) and English for Specific Purposes (Art, Business English and Tourism) for 6 hours. The 5th-year students were involved in meaningful discussions for their CLIL project for 9 hours.
The teaching practices incorporated were research and evidence-based to reduce language anxiety and increase language enjoyment. Overall, students reported low-moderate levels of anxiety for both oral discussions and classroom-related variables.
The analyses revealed the following:
(a) students overall reported low to moderate levels of anxiety(b) there were no significant differences in the anxiety reported by monolingual, bilingual, and multilingual language users(c) no prominent variability was revealed in the anxiety experienced by students with specific learning disorders (SLDs) and those without(d) no notable contrast was perceived among the students belonging to different years of study(e) there was, further, no variation disclosed if the topic differed in each class
